Dr. Oskar

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 13, 2026

Who we are

Dr. Oskar (dr-oskar.com) is operated by Hunter Design Co. LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you use Dr. Oskar, how we use it, and who we share it with. It applies alongside our Terms of Service.

Dr. Oskar is an early-stage research tool. As features change, this policy will too. The date above shows when it last changed.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your name, email address and password. We store passwords only as a secure hash. If you sign in with Microsoft or Google instead, we receive your name, email address and, if they have one, your profile picture from them.
  • Access requests. When you request access, your name, email, job title, affiliation and, if you add it, why you’re interested.
  • Conversations. The messages you send, Dr. Oskar’s responses, and the searches Dr. Oskar ran to answer them. When you’re signed in, they’re saved to your account.
  • Tissue requests. What you add to a request: the samples you chose, the PI’s name, email and phone, institution and department, shipping address, IRB protocol and expiry, project title, intended use, grant number and funding source.
  • Brain bank intake. If you use a brain bank’s intake page on Dr. Oskar, the conversation and what you share in it: your name, email, institution, PI and lab, your project and tissue needs, and details the bank asks for, such as funding and IRB status. You don’t need an account for this.
  • Usage and device data. The pages you visit, clicks and form submissions, your browser and device type, and your IP address. Each sign-in session records your IP address and browser.

How we use it

  • To run Dr. Oskar: your account, answers to your questions, saved conversations and requests.
  • To keep new accounts to researchers at universities and research institutes, by checking the domain of your email address.
  • To send email you need: address verification, password resets, account security notices, invitations, and copies of requests you send to a brain bank.
  • To review access requests.
  • To improve Dr. Oskar. We look at how features are used, review conversations to find wrong or unhelpful answers, and use questions people have asked to test Dr. Oskar’s answers.
  • To keep Dr. Oskar secure and prevent abuse.

We don’t sell your personal information, use it for advertising, or train AI models on it.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the services that run Dr. Oskar, and only what they need:

  • Anthropic processes your messages and conversation history to generateDr. Oskar’s responses, chat titles and request summaries.
  • OpenAI processes the search queries Dr. Oskar writes from your questions, to find relevant reference material.
  • The U.S. National Library of Medicine receives search terms when Dr. Oskarlooks up published research in PubMed.
  • PostHog provides product analytics. When you’re signed in, it links usage to your account and email address.
  • Resend delivers our email.
  • Sentry receives error reports when something in Dr. Oskar breaks: the page or request that failed, your browser and device type, and technical details of the error. Reports don’t include your messages or form answers.
  • Railway hosts Dr. Oskar, and Neon hosts its database.

Brain banks. When you use a brain bank’s intake page, that bank’s staff can read the full conversation and the details you give, and they receive your request when you send it. They handle it under the bank’s own policies. For other tissue requests,Dr. Oskar prepares an email that you send to the bank yourself.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.

Cookies and local storage

Dr. Oskar uses a small number of cookies and browser storage entries:

  • A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in until 30 days after you last use Dr. Oskar.
  • An access cookie for password-protected brain bank pages, lasting 30 days.
  • PostHog analytics cookies and local storage.
  • Local storage that remembers whether you’ve seen the introduction.

We don’t use advertising cookies. You can block analytics with your browser settings or a content blocker, and Dr. Oskar will still work. Blocking all cookies prevents signing in.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and saved conversations while your account is open. You can delete a conversation or a draft request in Dr. Oskar at any time, which removes it from our database. Questions we’ve copied into test sets, without names or contact details, may be kept after the conversation is deleted.

We keep submitted requests and brain bank intake records so they can be fulfilled and tracked, even if you delete the conversation they came from. Our servers keep short-lived logs, which can include parts of messages and email addresses, to diagnose problems. To prevent abuse, some pages count requests by IP address, and those counts expire after about two days.

Your choices and rights

Email privacy@dr-oskar.com to see, correct, export or delete your information, or to close your account. We respond within 30 days. When we delete an account, we also delete its conversations and requests, except records we need to keep for a brain bank or by law.

Depending on where you live, such as the EU, the UK or California, the law may give you further rights over your information. We honor these requests wherever you are.

Tissue donor data

Dr. Oskar’s sample information comes from brain banks’ published, de-identified records, such as those of the NIH NeuroBioBank. It describes donors by bank ID and attributes like age, sex and diagnosis, and does not include names or contact details.

Security

We encrypt traffic to Dr. Oskar with HTTPS, store passwords as hashes, and limit access to our systems. No service can guarantee perfect security. If you think your account has been compromised, contact us right away.

Where we process data

Dr. Oskar is operated from the United States. If you use Dr. Oskar from elsewhere, your information is transferred to the United States and processed there and wherever the services above operate.

Children

Dr. Oskar is for professional research and isn’t directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

We’ll post changes here and update the date above. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we’ll email account holders before it takes effect.
